Alexandria is quarried from a bedrock quarry in Turkey. This is a sedimentary stone that is formed in hot springs and is composed mainly of calcite calcium carbonate. All travertine stones will have natural cavities, or pits visible in the stone that were developed when carbon dioxide bubbles became trapped during the formation of the stone. Prior to honing, this travertine is filled with a color cement to fill in these cavities, and due to varying climate conditions, the color of the fill can differ between shipments. Arizona Tile also offers Alexandria as a product of our tumbled program, which will offer a multitude of mosaics and tile sizes that will visually add a more rustic style to any design. There can be noticeable variances between pieces, so it is important and recommended that a range of this product be viewed before finalizing a purchase.
