Andino Noce is a very dense travertine quarried from a bedrock quarry in Peru in the Andes Mountains at 15,000 feet above sea level. This is a sedimentary stone that is formed in hot springs and is composed of calcite calcium carbonate. All travertine stones will have natural cavities, or pits visible in the stone that developed when carbon dioxide bubbles became trapped during the formation of the stone. Three days prior to honing, this travertine is filled with a colored cement to fill in these cavities. Andino Noce is one of the most dense travertine materials available on the market, supplying it with a very low absorption rate.  Due to these qualities, the factory has to alternate the production of Andino Noce followed by a softer stone to clean the equipment and pipes. The left over powder from cutting this travertine can get into the equipment and act as a cement that can clog the water pipes. There can be noticeable variances between pieces, so it is important and
recommended that a range of this product be viewed before finalizing a purchase.
