Over the past few years, there has been no shortage of change in daily life. As the pandemic brought uncertainty, we all made adjustments to various aspects of life, like work and school. One significant way that life changed was the ability to work remotely. Many people have been able to successfully adopt this new mode into their full-time careers. However, when it comes to working from home, having the right setup and dedicated space are necessary.<\/p>\n

With that said, having a home office is ideal but sometimes using a guest room<\/a> to create a dual-purpose area is the route many have had to take. Fortunately, there are plenty of home office and guest room ideas to help create a functional space for daily work needs, while still accommodating visitors.<\/p>\n

Make it Functional<\/h2>\n

Having a functional workspace is just as important as having a cozy retreat for visitors. Furniture is important to the success of the design, with the two primary pieces being 1) a desk and 2) a bed. Without either item, the functionality of this space would be lacking, but adding both may make the space feel cramped.<\/p>\n

Desk<\/h3>\n

In a smaller space, a modest, quaint desk can double as your workstation plus a surface for your guests\u2019 personal items. Don\u2019t add too many surfaces as a modest amount of surface space will help keep work clutter at bay. In a larger space, however, maybe consider adding a small dresser or side table but keep the furniture on the petite side to avoid making the room appear smaller.<\/p>\n

To maximize floor space, a long, but narrow, corner desk functions well along the wall. Adding shelving on the wall, above the desk, can create a nice place for books and nick-nacks, while keeping the desk surface neat and the floor clear.<\/p>\n

Painting the desk and shelving a similar color as the wall, like soft whites, can add an airy feeling to the room and allow the workstation to blend into the room when it\u2019s not being utilized.<\/p>\n

Bed<\/h3>\n

When evaluating your home office and guest room ideas, there is definitely a need for a bed, but it\u2019s probably not something you want to take up excessive space for, particularly if it’s only used periodically. Being able to maximize your space with a hideaway bed could benefit your office and guest room design.<\/p>\n
