Coliseum is a unique product. This granite has been stained to change the color from an off-white to a rich, gold tone. The stain is locked into the stone when the epoxy surface resin is applied at the factory. The edge detail will also need to be stained by the fabricator in order for it to match the surface tone. The stain can only be applied to raw or honed slabs. The polishing of the edges closes the pores in the granite and it will not accept the stain. This process must by done by the fabricator in their facility. The factory-supplied stain will be given to the fabricator at no charge when the slab is delivered. Over time, ultraviolet rays from the sun can fade this product, therefore it should only be installed in interior applications, not exposed to direct sunlight. Additionally, it should not be stored in direct sunlight for long periods of time while waiting for fabrication. Due to the qualities of the stone, the slabs are book-matched; meaning slab one and slab two will be cut and polished to create a mirror image of each other. These are then kept in sequence, which allows for a consistent flow in pattern. During the polishing process, an epoxy resin is applied to the surface of the stone to fill in any natural pits, cracks or fissures that may exist. This does not affect the durability, maintenance or beauty of the stone. It is possible for some of the more minute pits that are too small to effectively hold the resin, to reopen during other finishing stages. However, this will not detract from the overall quality or appearance of the stone. As a natural stone product, it is recommended that it be sealed to extend its longevity.
