Calacatta Caldia Satin is quarried from a bedrock quarry in the Apuan Mountain range next to Carrara, Italy where several different quarries of Calacatta marble exist. This marble will have a white background with taupe/gold veins throughout the slabs. There may also be some grey areas and areas with a light, green tone. The use of white marble for kitchen countertops has been increasing over the past few years. Although white marble can scratch, etch or stain because it is a softer product, if you are willing to keep it sealed and understand the recommended maintenance, it will be a beautiful addition to any home. It is important to use a cutting board, and not the countertop surface, when cutting and slicing. Due to the qualities of the stone, the slabs are book-matched; meaning slab one and slab two will be cut and polished to create a mirror image of each other. These are then kept in sequence, which allows for a consistent flow in pattern. Finally, a mesh backing is adhered to the back of the stone to ensure safety while handling and fabricating the slab or tile. As a natural stone product, it is recommended that this be sealed to extend its longevity.
