Calacatta Borghese Honed is a light silver dolomite stone, characterized by soft white veining dispersed throughout. There will be random crystals veining in the slabs of Calacatta Borghese. It is also possible that there will be occasional light beige spots within a slab as well. With its dense structure, Calacatta Borghese Honed is well suited for kitchen countertop use and is less likely to etch than marble. We recommend the use of a cutting board as it is still possible to scratch the surface of this dolomite. During the honing process, an epoxy resin is applied to the surface of the stone to fill in any natural pits, cracks, or fissures that may exist. This does not affect the durability, maintenance, or beauty of the stone. It is possible for some of the more minute pits that are too small to effectively hold the resin, to reopen during other finishing stages. However, this will not detract from the overall quality or appearance of the stone. Due to the qualities of the stone, the slabs are book-matched; meaning slab one and slab two will be cut and honed to create a mirror image of each other. These are then kept in sequence, which allows for a consistent flow in pattern. Due to the porous nature of this stone, it requires 3 to 5 coats of sealer to be fully sealed.
Piece to piece variation in shade or color are inherent in all-natural stone products; therefore, when installing natural stone tile, it is recommended to mix tiles from several boxes at a time during installation to achieve the best range of color. As natural stone products, it is recommended that these be sealed to extend their longevity.
