Kitchen Island

Adding a kitchen island will not only make a statement in your space, but it is also a 100 percent useful addition. Depending on the size of your space (and your budget), you can go big, small or something in between.

For the crafty type, one of our favorite ideas is to take an old door and add legs to it – maybe a shelf underneath for storage – give it a coat of paint and voila… you have a gorgeous and rustic kitchen island.

For the not so DIYer, a fun idea is to take an old desk and turn it into a new kitchen island. The trick here is décor, décor, décor. Add some baskets and small appliances on the shelves and nobody will ever know it used to be a desk… or they’ll love it so much, they may just run home and do the same thing.

Bathroom Backsplash

While not a bathroom necessity, there is something stunning about a bathroom backsplash. It also happens to be an easy DIY project. When it comes to adding a backsplash to your bathroom, one thing to take into consideration is that you will want to stay on theme with the rest of the bathroom. That doesn’t mean you can’t go bold – yes, you absolutely can take it bold with your bathroom backsplash… just stay on theme. One of our favorites is the Castle Brick porcelain tile backsplash in white.

Area Rugs for Bathroom and Kitchen

Adding a few area rugs to either your kitchen or bathroom may just be the most perfect, and yes, we’ll say it, cheap and easy way to add cheerful updates to your space. Area rugs are a great way to add a little color and a lot of ambiance to any room without being overbearing. This is a fun way to go super bold and get away with it!

Because area rugs are on the floor, they won’t be too busy for the eye. So have fun with them. Ditch the neutrals and brighten up your space with a bold area rug!

Kitchen Coffee Bar

The kitchen coffee bar idea works really well if you have a little counter nook area or awkward space in your kitchen but can also be set up anywhere you have the room for one. Once you designate that space the coffee bar, it’s just about adding in the appliances, coffee supplies and décor. Things to consider: adding a “coffee” sign; giving it a bed and breakfast feel by adding mugs, coffee pods, non-dairy creamer and sweeteners, so that everything is done for the next person who wants a cup ‘a joe!
