Durango is quarried in Mexico. This is the cross-cut and filled version of this travertine, which will show a flowery-type look. This is a sedimentary stone that is formed in hot springs and is composed of calcite calcium carbonate. All travertine stones will have natural cavities, or pits visible in the stone that developed when carbon dioxide bubbles became trapped during the formation of the stone. Three days prior to honing, the tile is filled with a colored cement to fill in these cavities. During the dry summer months the cement will cure more quickly than it will during the more humid parts of the year. Because of this fluctuation in curing, it is normal for the tone of the fill to differ between seasons. There can be noticeable variances between pieces, so it is important and recommended that a range of this product be viewed before finalizing a purchase. Given the range of color from piece to piece, it needs to be blended during installation. As a natural stone product, it is recommended that this be sealed to extend its longevity.
