Cosmetic vs. Structure

The cost to renovate a bathroom can grow exponentially if plumbing and electric need to be reworked in any way. Depending on the need, this could add many thousands of dollars to the bathroom renovation. If it is possible to avoid these types of changes, you can instead focus on making cosmetic changes, such as adding a detailed tile shower wall or floor, and a stunning vanity. Geo 2 glass tile offers that look of intricacy and paired with the dark, rich black of the Paros Black Hex can make for a stunning look. If your budget is being squeezed or you are trying to keep the cost to a minimum, you can still create a luxurious feel throughout by focusing on specific details.

Stone… or is it?

There is no denying that natural stone is beautiful. It expresses a type of luxury that goes back in time thousands of years. In Greece and Rome, marble was used because of its durability and beauty, and it certainly showed sophistication and wealth.  Esteemed buildings were fashioned in marble, sculptures were created with marble, and when marble started being put in homes, it only went into homes of the wealthy. One way to create a budget-friendly bathroom is to use tile that emulates marble. Not only is porcelain less expensive than natural marble, but it is practically maintenance-free and very durable. Easy to use on any surface in the bathroom—the floor, the wall, the shower, around the vanity—there isn’t an option much more practical than this to have the beauty and sense of luxury, yet keep the renovation within budget.

The Tru Marmi Series has the same characteristics as some of the most sought-after stones, even marble. With five different color and veining options, all in neutral color tones, and numerous size options, you could fashion a large portion of your bathroom in this stunning porcelain tile.

The Size

Tile work can truly be breathtaking when imagined and installed in a one-of-a-kind design, be it in the shower, on the floor, or as the backsplash. Using small tile may look nice and add dimension and finer detail, but it may cost a little extra. Instead, using a large tile through much of the bathroom and having some accent areas with smaller tile, may help to stretch your renovation budget.

Small tile may cost more for installation if it requires more detailed work during the installation process. Paros White porcelain is a great blank canvas on which to highlight more vibrant patterned tile like our Reverie 8 porcelain. But there’s more… adding detail, dimension, or color does not have to be eliminated when working on a budget-friendly bathroom design. Including small areas of accent tile will truly pop around any stone or tile. Islandia glass tile would make for a perfect recessed shower shelf as your eye would be drawn to this nook, as some wall detail to accent the larger stone, or to jazz up a backsplash area around the vanity.

Vanity

Whether you are renovating a small bathroom on a budget or prefer a smaller vanity possibly to achieve a more modern or streamlined appearance, having a smaller vanity is another way to reduce your bathroom renovation costs. The smaller the piece, the smaller the expense, typically. Not only does a smaller vanity save on cost but it can make the bathroom appear larger, especially in a tight space. Oversizing the vanity may overwhelm the bathroom space and minimize other design details, meant to be a focus. The creamy and warm background tones with the light brown veining of Perla Venata quartzite is an excellent choice for a neutral, warm natural stone countertop surface.

Paint comes in an endless variety of colors so no matter what appeal you want out of your budget bathroom renovation, you can find the perfect pairing of paint for your bathroom walls.
